Wrestling Soddy-Daisy is, in itself, tough enough. Wrestle Soddy-Daisy minus three starters and the task becomes near impossible. The Walker Valley Mustangs found that out in a big way in a 49-24 loss to the Trojans inside “The Stable” Thursday.
“They flat out just kicked our tails,” said Mustangs coach Al Morris after the Alumni Night match. “Where we wrestled they pretty much took it to us. I would have liked to have had a whole lineup in there tonight, but it is what it is. Where we wrestled, we got whipped.”
The Trojans won seven of the matches they wrestled by pins to go with a major decision and regular decision.
The Mustangs, down three wrestlers due illness and skin issues, got pins by Garrison McCann at 132 pounds and Michael Teasley at 152.
“Our 182, Heath Tanksley, is under the weather. He’s missed the last couple of matches. Hopefully, he will be back with us soon. They (Soddy-Daisy) were able to bump their guy up to 195,” Morris explained. “We had to put some junior varsity guys in and bump our lineup around some. Not taking anything away from them because it may not have changed the outcome, but you’d just like to have all your bullets in the gun.”
The Mustangs will take a rest today to prepare for the Walker Valley Duals Saturday at the high school.
“Hopefully, the weather is going to cooperate,” said Morris. “It’s kind of scary about the tornados and stuff, but we’ll see.”
