Despite having some illness running up and down his roster, Brian Parker was pretty pleased with what he saw from his recent Stone Memorial High School wrestling season opener.
Stone had little trouble with host Hixson, grabbing a 54-18 victory.
However, the Panthers couldn’t make it 2-0 as they dropped a 42-30 decision to Ooltewah.
“We had a lot of rookies in the lineup due to sickness,” Parker said.
“Freshman Braden Thompson came through with a big pin in the Hixson
match. Johnnathen Aguirre, Trenton Duncan and Aden Thompson had two wins on the night.”
Stone jumped on top of Hixson quickly with Jack Nealy and Bradeck Cole
picking up forfeit wins at the 113-pound and 120-pound weight divisions.
Those wins came between double forfeits at 106 pounds and 126 pounds.
Dalton Platz won his match for the Panthers at 132 pounds, while Dalton
Jewell won by forfeit at 138 pounds. Brice Martin picked up a win at 144
pounds and Aguire beat Hixson’s Herbin Soto in the 150-pound weight class.
Duncan picked up a win at 157 pounds and Aden Thompson beat Hixson’s Mako Mathis at 175 pounds.
Unfortunately, Ryan McCollam lost
his battle with Ian Von Loh at 165 pounds. Theodore Daniel lost his contest at 190
pounds, and Stone’s Jonah Rever lost at 215 pounds.
However, Braden Thompson took down Hixson’s Braden Jenkins in the
heavyweight division, at 285 pounds.
In the second match of the day, Stone picked up big wins in several
different classes for the Panthers but couldn’t knock off Ooltewah for the overall match category.
After a double forfeit at 106 pounds, Nealey and Cole won their matches
at 113 and 120 pounds, respectively. Both wins were by forfeit. There
was a forfeit at 126 pounds and Platz lost his match to Harrison Hindman
at 132 pounds. Stone’s Dalton Jewell dropped his match at 138 pounds to
Ooltewah’s Logan Hindman.
Brice Martin dropped his match to Matthew Conner at 144 pounds and Aguire got his hand raised over Sebastian Lotufo for a win in the 150-pound match.
Duncan came back for a big win at 157 pounds over Daniel Loizeaux.
McCollam fell in his match at 165 pounds.
At 175 pounds, Aden Thompson took down Ooltewah’s Oliver Lia. Theodore
Daniel dropped his match at 190 pounds and Braden Thompson lost his
match at 285 pounds.
Stone’s last win of the day came at 215 pounds when
Rever won by forfeit.
In other action this week, the Cumberland County Jets dropped a 66-18
decision on the road with Warren County.
CCHS got victories from Anthony Godsey at 126 pounds. He beat Matthew
Hicks. Benjamin Hulbert defeated Matthew Starkey for the win at 175
pounds, while Jacob Nealon, wrestling in the heavyweight division at
285 pounds, beat JR Mares.
Other Jets competing in the meet were Cayden Wallace, Deacon Shockley,
Thomas Kerley, Jacob Voss, Isaiah McMillian, Colton Bennett, Matthew
Patton, James Lawson, Noah Barnaby and James Johnson.
Up next, Stone Memorial will visit Farragut on Dec. 1 before traveling
