The 2016 NCWA Mid-Atlantic Conference Championships have moved from their scheduled location to the Murfreesboro, TN campus of Middle Tennessee State University on February 27th. ETSU, this season’s original host location, was unable to maintain the tournament after the sudden retirement of longtime coach Don Elia. New coach Brad Perry, who took over for Elia near the beginning of the season, faced scheduling struggles that made hosting the conference championships nearly impossible.
The Conference voted MTSU as the back-up location during the conference meeting at last season’s conference championships held at Liberty University. MTSU Head Coach Steven Smith, his staff and wrestlers welcome the chance to try to best last season’s Conference Runner-up finish this season on their own campus, but last season’s NCWA Mid-Atlantic Conference Champion and National Champion Liberty University isn’t ready to relent their hold on the conference yet as the Flames go for their fifth straight title. Longtime NCWA power, The Apprentice School, finished third the last two seasons behind MTSU and Liberty. It’s the worst conference stretch in team history, and the Shipbuilders look to re-establish themselves as not only the conference’s top program, but the nations.
