MTSU’s 2x All-American Byron Smith opened up the season going 4-1 en route to 3rd place at the Georgia Open. Smith opened the tournament with a high scoring 18-16 win over Marcus Abreu. In the quarters, he suffered a loss to #6 ranked NAIA’s Olsen Delisca of Southeastern. Delisca went on to win the tournament. Smith rallied off 3 straight in the consolation round, including a pin over Will Davidson of Truett-McConnell, a 7-5 decision over Tramone Jenkins of Spartanburg Methodist, and a medical forfeit for 3rd place from Justin Payne of Belmont Abbey.
